BroNYcon VA Panel: Awkwardness

I missed BroNYcon, but I watched some of the livestreams of the event. It looked very crowded, and based on what I've heard, the venue was not big enough, and some people had to be turned away. Looking at this scene in particular, I'm sure the nerdstink was overwhelming. I suppose the stench of fajitas, unwashed oily gym socks -- accented with pungent nuances of cheap cologne -- certify any sort of event like this as a true and blue convention to celebrate popular net culture.

The coup de grace of this menagerie, however, was the voice actress panel. I've divided up bits of the video highlights, along with my thoughts:

I think it goes without saying that panel host in the purple shirt from Everfree Radio doesn't really have...a good "host's" voice -- not by his fault, but I couldn't shake that creepy overexcited stalker vibe from him, and the feeling seemed to spread to the VA actresses as well.

3:25: Actress Nicole Oliver asks if any little children were in back, and if they would come up to the front. She must not have checked the convention she was attending, as the only children present were man-children. (I could be wrong about this, but looking at the wall of sweaty nerds, I really doubt any kids present would have been physically able to move to the front to get a better look.)

33:04 Nicole Oliver challenges the community to contribute to children's charity after they [the VA panel] were asked if the community could make or do anything for them. I didn't think any other host could be more awkward than Sir Purple Shirt. Enter the HumbleBrony Bundle guy. For those not in the know, the HumbleBrony Bundle group all pool their cash and throw it at a pack of games of which you can choose what amount to pay for. What makes this embarrassing, however, is this balding gentlecolt lists off the percentages of where that money goes: 30% to Child's Play (to get games for sick children), 30% to Red Cross, and the rest...well um "Went to guys that are just like you, living the dream, making independent games and bluhdeblehduhduh." Wut? LOL. I didn't know the FiM VA actresses were into game design. Also dat lisp.

40:27 They start to take audience questions. Purple Shirt warns the audience "Don't creep'um out." Whoa there buddy, too late! lololol

45:00 Audience questions open up. Alex S (a popular remix artist in the fandom) asks the VA panel if there is a chance any of them would work on a song with him. Seriously? His question came greeted with a lot of "Ooohs," which did two things: 1. Yeah, he grew a big pair to come up with that gem of a question, and 2. It made him look like an ass. I sort of understand now why his YouTube channel got trolled recently...

47:40 Possibly the most famous event in the panel. Poor Ashleigh had no idea what she did.

A few more awkward questions -- the VA panel promises to come back "In a New York second..."

I really hope when Lauren Faust attends this event next time, it's moved to a much bigger venue, and they find someone less creepy to host/moderate it.

Here we go...

Hi, I'm Pinkiewuff. I'm going to highlight some funny stuff about the fandom surrounding My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. As a "pegasister" who enjoys My Little Pony, none of your bronies can neighsay my thoughts as uninformed bias.
